Hanging baskets for Spring – our residents have been busy making the garden colourful for spring

A recent activity at Sussex Grange for our residents saw them take a more green-fingered approach to their work. Jackie and the team arranged for the residents to make their own hanging baskets, something that they previously enjoyed doing in their own homes. Baskets were prepared and the residents spent the morning filling them with spring flowers.

Once the baskets were completed, they were displayed around the gardens for everyone to enjoy. Activities such as planting and other gardening tasks offer residents the chance to relax and participate in tasks that they have previously once enjoyed. The team at Sussex Grange work hard to offer residents a wide variety of activities, including quizzes, bingo, dances, TV afternoons and baking. What is ‘Care Home Open Day’ and why are we keen to take part?

Care Home Open  Daycare-home-open-day is a UK-wide initiative offering local communities the chance to visit care homes in their area, and get a feel for what it is like to be a resident at a care home.

With an ever-ageing population, many elderly people are dependent on carers or external services to ensure they have a good quality of life. Looking after elderly relatives can be extremely hard for people who are working and trying to sustain a normal working life. By finding support from care homes or carers, the pressure of caring for a loved one can be taken care of, and relations can enjoy visiting and spending quality time with their parent or relation without the stress of medication, washing, or general care.

The Care Home Open Day offers people across the UK the chance to visit care homes and experience what they can offer before committing to a contract. Care Home Open Day UK state “This is all about showing people what excellent care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of local communities, developing relationships across the generations.”

Sussex Grange will be taking part in the 2015 Care Home Open Day on 19th June 2015 and will be opening their doors so you can experience life at Sussex Grange and make enquiries about what we can offer you.  For more information please contact Tom at Sussex Grangeor call 01243 606262

Traditional cinema comes to Sussex Grange care home in Selsey

Jackie and one of our residents enjoying the traditional cinema afternoon

Not just your average ‘lazy film afternoon’ at Sussex Grange. Located in Selsey, near Chichester, the care home residents received an extra special treat when the TV lounge transported many of them back to their youth with a vintage film and an interval with an usherette offering trays of popcorn. The afternoon was not only the talk of the care home among staff and residents, but also offered residents the opportunity to reminisce about the days of ‘golden age’ cinema.

It can be perceived as daunting for our clients to transition to life at Sussex Grange, away from home, potentially away from family. Our team work exceedingly hard to offer our residents a ‘home from home’ experience with little extras to ensure they truly feel looked after.
